Bong Bridge rehab to result in sidewalk, ramp and road closure

Sidewalk across the bridge to be closed for three weeks, starting Nov. 3

Sidewalk from Susquehanna Avenue in Superior across the bridge to West Michigan Street in Duluth will be closed from Monday to Monday, Nov. 3-24 because of work on the Bong Bridge rehabilitation project.

Work on the bridge, which carries US 2 over the St. Louis River between Superior and Duluth, also will result in the following road and ramp closures on the Minnesota side of the bridge:

  • Ramp from westbound US 2 to northbound I-35: Closed from 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29.
  • South 46th Street West to eastbound US 2: Closed from 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 and 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5.
  • Southbound I-35 ramp to eastbound US 2: Closed 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
  • Northbound I-35 ramp to eastbound US 2: Closed 5 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

Motorists should follow signed detour routes. The work is contractor and weather dependent and subject to change.
