Hidden Challenges. Hidden Opportunities.

An interactive presentation designed to help businesses look at ways to make their setting more friendly for those with hidden disabilities was held on March 23rd. The session ended with a discussion about the benefits of hiring that same group of individuals including resources to support businesses in the process.  The presentation included time to brainstorm specifics and create an action plan for each business with support from the presenters.

This session helped to:

  • Build awareness of disabilities, particularly ‘hidden’ disabilities and how they impact daily life in the community
  • Explore how business can make environment more navigable for those with challenges as customers and/or employees

  • Hiring people with challenges and creating a win-win situation

  • Walk away with an action plan and the resources needed to make it happen

Training was presented by Shawna Anderson, Transition Coordinator with Superior High School and Rebecca Wilberg with Department of Workforce Development and sponsored by the Superior Business Improvement District.

Alt-Lead “Belknap Improvement” Leadership Training Opportunity

The Superior Business Improvement Districtpartnered with Alt-Lead to offer a specialized “Belknap Improvement” sample session of their training program tailored to the particular needs of SBID members.

This session helped to:

  • use the abilities of everyone on your team to identify your goals
  • engage others for both your own success and theirs
  • lead with your own unique qualities and experience
  • strengthen a culture of respect, support, optimism, possibilities and win-win outcomes
  • take your business and your District associates to the places you want to go

While getting a taste of Alt-Lead’s full training, attendees practiced some specific tools to use right away at work, in the business district, and even at home.
