Work will include the removal/replacement of existing asphalt
surface, curb and gutter, and sidewalk in conjunction with
addition of storm sewer and
improved drainage features within the City right-of-way. Work is
expected to last two months (depending on the weather).
The street will be closed to thru traffic, but
residents and businesses will be able to access their properties.

Project Plans I
Project Plans II
8/23/2010: Storm sewer installation is nearly
complete, with one run of pipe, one structure and a couple cross
pipes remaining to be placed. Drain tile, geotextile fabric, and
rock now cover thru the N 11th St intersection. With a
little help from the weather, storm sewers should be completed
this week and the remaining areas should be graded and covered.
Its important to note when dealing with the clay on this project
that every time it rains, our crews are set back one to two days,
sometimes more.
7/30/2010: Storm sewer installation is
completed to N 11th St, with ½ block of N 11th and Banks from 11th
to 12th remaining. We’ve had to make a few plan modifications to
accommodate water lines and gas lines, but SWL&P has been working
with us to make these adjustments. Tuesday nights rain floated two
runs of pipe out of the ground and crews spent 2 days to repair
the damage.
7/22/2010: With the majority of the utility
conflicts out of the way, storm sewer should be installed up to N
11th by the end of the week. From there, ½ block on N
11th and the section from N 11th to N 12th
will remain for storm sewer installation. Fabric, rock, and
gravel will resume to the South thru the Broadway intersection
next week now that the storm sewer is installed.
7/15/2010: Concrete has been removed over the
majority of the project and will continue to N 12th in
the near future. Materials have been an issue as we continue to
wait for a key storm sewer structure which will be placed in the
Broadway intersection. Once this structure is set, storm sewer
installation will continue South along Broadway, and with
excavation being completed ahead of the storm sewer work, the
project should start shaping up rather quickly.
6/30/2010: With only 7 days in June where we
didn’t receive any precipitation, according to the National
Weather Service, and 5.25 inches of rain for the month, 1.14
inches above normal, work has been slow but steady. Storm sewer
is installed from Winter to Banks and base material is nearly
completed. Work began in the Banks intersection with Broadway to
complete the tie in with the outfalls for the Storm Sewer to the
North. Work on the section from Broadway to N 11th
will begin soon.
6/17/2010: Winter to Broadway ~ Concrete has
been removed, gas lines lowered, water valves and existing
manholes have been repaired. Despite the weather, excavation to
sub-grade is nearly complete. New storm sewer has been delivered
and installation should begin on Thurs. June 17th. Still hoping to
have traffic using this section on gravel by Friday June 25th. At
that point, the Broadway/Banks intersection will be removed and
storm sewer structures installed.
6/10/2010: Asphalt has been removed over the
entire project area. Winter to Broadway has been closed and
concrete is being removed. Removals should be completed by
Friday. SWL&P will be installing a water valve within the project
either Friday or Monday and storm sewer installation will begin
once the removals are completed. This section should be passable,
weather permitting, by the end of next week.
6/3/2010: Activity has begun on this project.
Peeling up asphalt and saw cutting at intersections has begun.
Closures in blocks where work is occurring.
5/25/2010: An informational meeting was held
on May 25th at the BID Office
for the 62 businesses that will be most effected by the Banks
Avenue reconstruction.
The project is set to begin the first week of June.
The BID is working on having
signage made for each end of the project to direct traffic and
inform people that
businesses will remain open during the entire construction phase.
